Portland’s Population Jumps Due to Domestic Migration

According to US Census Bureau estimates, Portland’s metro area has become the 15th fastest growing city among the country’s major metro areas. It’s not due to a baby boom, but transplants choosing Portland over other metro areas which accounts for why most of the 33,500 new residents are calling Oregon’s largest city home. With an estimated 2.35 million people, the Portland metro area has the 10th highest rate of domestic migration among large urban areas. Since 2010, the area has grown 5.2 percent, the 4th fastest growth outside of the Sun Belt. This will no doubt affect how city planners, developers and investors view the Portland real estate market.
